This beautiful flowing top is perfect for wearing loose over jeans, trousers, skirts or shorts! Layer with a cardigan for winter, or on its own in summer. Easily lengthened as a tunic or shortened as a crop top.

There are two strap lengths. You can mix or match any of them for different looks. You can have one or two straps on each shoulder, and they can either go straight over the shoulder or be crossed to the opposite shoulder at the back.

The top is two layers and comes with two different lengths. The shorter length is a crop length, the longer length comes to the top of the hip bone. Either have both the longer length, both the shorter length or cut one of each for a layered look.

Wash, dry, and press your fabric before starting your project. A bit of prep now prevents shrinking and means your garment will stay the same size you made it.

Never leave a child or baby unattended or allow to sleep in a garment made from one of our patterns with ties, snaps, buttons, or anything they could remove, choke on, or get caught on. Always use caution if you are unsure. We love our patterns, but we love your bundles of joy more!

Size Range

You will need light to medium weight woven fabric for this pattern: 

• Any light or medium weight woven fabric will work. 
• A fabric with drape (such as chiffon, georgette, rayon or crepe de chine) will give a softer look to the blouse. 
• A fabric with more body (such as a quilting cotton, linen or taffeta) will give more structure to the blouse. 
• Fabrics like rayon challis can also be cut on the bias to give more drape.  
• Remember when picking your fabric that the hemline is loose and voluminous. A fabric with drape will give beautiful folds and movement. A fabric without drape that is stiffer will look more boxy and oversized. Fabric choice is key for this design to get the look you’re aiming for.

Settings

The pattern is a separate download. Choose either the US letter paper, A4 paper, or A0 paper size based on the printer you wish to use. If you are in the US or Canada then your printer will likely use US letter paper. Other regions normally use A4 paper. Some people prefer to print their patterns at a print shop: A0 is best in this case.

Print at 100%.

On the second page, you will find a 1-inch and a 3-inch square test box. Print this page first, on its own, and measure these squares.

Once you are happy that the test box is accurate, print the rest of the pattern pages.

Cut each of the pieces according to the directions on the pattern piece. Seam allowances are all included so just cut them as is.

The instructions on the pattern pieces will have you cut a layered top (one short top, with a longer top underneath), with one straight strap going over each shoulder, and one longer strap crossing over at the back. However, you can mix and match these according to your preference. Read below for details.

Tops – You will need two complete tops, each with a front and back. There are two lengths of top included. The shorter top is approximately crop length. The longer top is approximately hip bone length. Decide now if you want two short tops, two long tops or a layered look with one short and one long. You should cut 2x fronts and 2x backs of the length/s you want. The two tops will be layered one on top of the other. The one on top we will call the ‘Outer Layer’, the one underneath we will call the ‘Inner Layer’.

Straps – There are 2 strap lengths included. The shorter one goes straight over the shoulder. The longer one crosses diagonally from front to back. You can have one or two straps per shoulder. For stability, you need one straight strap per shoulder.  But you can add a crossed strap.  Decide now if you want one or two straps per shoulder, and if you want them to be straight (short strap) or one of each (one short and one long per shoulder).

The strap pattern pieces are included, however, if you prefer to cut using a cutting chart, they are rectangular and dimensions for them (in INCHES) are below: 

Cutting Checklist:

Outer Layer (can be cut using the ‘Short’ or ‘Long’ pattern pieces)

• Front – Cut 1 on fold
• Back – Cut 1 on fold

Inner Layer (can be cut using the ‘Short’ or ‘Long’ pattern pieces)

• Front – Cut 1 on fold
• Back – Cut 1 on fold

Straps (can be cut using the ‘Short’ or ‘Long’ pattern pieces)

• Strap – Cut 2 (1 per shoulder), or 4 (2 per shoulder)

NOTE – To cut fabric on the fold, fold your fabric over parallel to the selvage edges. Align the pattern piece so it is on the fold of the fabric. Cut around the edges, leaving the fold. If you have folded your fabric correctly the fold will be parallel to the two edges of the fabric that are finished. The raw edges (e.g. the ones you could pick at and threads would come off) will be at a right angle to your fold.

½ inch seam allowance included (¼ then ¼ for French seams) – Top stitching ⅛ inch – Basting ¼ inch

Preparation –

1. STAY STITCH – Stay stitch your Front neckline, Back neckline and all armscye edges.  

Sewing –

1. SIDE SEAMS – Serge or French seam the side seams for each layer of top.
2. STRAPS – Fold each strap in half right sides together and sew along the raw long edge. Trim the bulk, turn, and press. 
3. ATTACHING FRONT STRAPS – Baste in place on the front of the top, right side out. Pin or clip the ends out of the way.  Slip the outer layer inside the inner layer, both with right sides facing out, sew around the top edge. Trim the bulk from the raw edge and clip curves. Turn your garment right sides out, press and sew ¼ inch from edge, enclosing previous seam.  
4. ATTACHING BACK STRAPS – Trim end of Straps, fold ¼ inch and press. Pin or clip to inside of top Back. Try on to check length. Sew a square at the end of the Strap to attach. Choose the style to attach the longer Straps.
5. HEM – Press hem ½ inch, turn another ½ inch, press, and topstitch close.
