- Pattern paper for tracing off your original Rebecca Page pattern, as we are going to split and spread the pattern. I recommend something slightly thicker than tissue paper, as that tears easily.

Project OverviewHeight Adjustment – Summer Maxi Dress
Difficulty Level = Beginner
Our patterns are designed for a height of 5 foot 6. If your height is above/below this, you will need to adjust the bodice, skirt, and sleeve to get the perfect fit.
You will need to lengthen/shorten the Front Neck Panel, Bust, Center Front, Side Front, Side Back, Center Back, and Sleeve if adding.

Please read the full instructions before getting started.
Wash, dry, and press your fabric before starting your project. A bit of prep now prevents shrinking and means your garment will stay the same size you made it.
Never leave a child or baby unattended or allow to sleep in a garment made from one of our patterns with ties, snaps, buttons, or anything they could remove, choke on, or get caught on. Always use caution if you are unsure. We love our patterns, but we love your bundles of joy more!

Fitting NotesOur patterns are designed for a height of 5 foot 6. If your height is above/below this, you will need to adjust the bodice, skirt, and sleeve to get the perfect fit.
You will need to lengthen/shorten the Front Neck Panel, Bust, Center Front, Side Front, Side Back, Center Back and Sleeve if adding.
To calculate the adjustment length, subtract your height from 5 foot 6. The difference is what you will need to adjust your pattern by. As this height measurement is for a full-length pattern, and we are only adjusting the bodice, you will halve this amount to get your measurement needed. You will be adjusting the pattern piece in two places, so this amount will be halved again. This will ensure you are distributing the difference throughout the bodice pattern.
The table below shows how to calculate your measurement (in INCHES).
Use this as a guideline to calculate the number of inches required to adjust the pattern pieces by.

Make a note of this measurement.
Materials and ToolsYou will need:

1 . Back1.1
Trace and cut out the Center Back and Side Back pattern pieces.
Place the pattern pieces on top of another larger piece of paper.
1.2Draw a line halfway through the armscye (high bust) of the Side Back. Align the top of the Center Back and Side Back pieces, then draw a straight line across both pieces making sure the line is straight.
NOTE – Measure from the bottom of the armscye to the line. Make a note of the measurement as you will use this to adjust the rest of the pattern pieces.
1.3Draw a line at the same angle as the grainline on all pattern pieces.
This line will be used as a balance line to keep the cut pattern pieces aligned once you’ve moved them.
1.4Cut straight through the adjustment lines from step 1.1 on both the Center Back and Side Back pieces.
Tape the bottom of the pattern pieces in place.
Extend the balance lines up on the piece of paper.
If you are adding length, follow below. If you are removing length, skip to step 1.7.
1.5ADDING LENGTH: Place the top cut pieces onto the paper, matching the balance lines.
Using your height adjustment measurement calculated from the table above, move the top piece up by that measurement, keeping the balance line. Tape in place.
1.6Draw around each piece, filling in the gap in between the two pattern pieces.
Cut out the new lengthened Center Back and Side Back pieces.
Skip to step 2.
1.7REMOVING LENGTH: Place the top cut pieces onto the paper, matching the balance lines.
Using your height adjustment measurement calculated from the table above, move the top piece down by that measurement, overlapping the two pieces and keeping the balance line. Tape in place.
Draw around each piece, reshaping where needed.
Cut out the new shortened Center Back and Side Back pieces.
2 . Front Bust2.1Trace and cut out the Bust and Front Neck Panel pattern pieces.
Place both pattern pieces on top of another larger piece of paper.
Lay the Front Neck Panel pattern piece next to the Bust pattern piece. Measure from the bottom of the armscye on the Bust up to the center, using the same measurement from step 1.2. Draw a line horizontally across both pieces.
2.2Draw a line at the same angle as the grainline on all pattern pieces.
This line will be used as a balance line to keep the cut pattern pieces aligned once you’ve moved them.
Extend the balance lines up on the piece of paper.
If you are adding length, follow below. If you are removing length, skip to step 2.8.
2.3ADDING LENGTH: Cut straight through the adjustment line from step 2.1 on the Bust piece.
Tape the bottom of the pattern pieces in place.
Place the top cut piece of the Bust onto the paper, matching the balance lines.
Using your height adjustment measurement calculated from the table above, move the top piece up by that measurement, keeping the balance line. Tape in place.
Draw around the piece, filling in the gap in between the two pattern pieces.
Cut out the new Bust piece.
2.4Draw two diagonal balance lines on either side of the Front Neck Panel onto the paper.
2.5Cut through the adjustment line drawn in step 2.1.
Tape the top pattern piece in place.
2.6Using your height adjustment measurement calculated from the table above, move the bottom piece down by that measurement, keeping the balance line.
2.7Carefully slide the bottom pattern piece over, aligning it with the diagonal balance lines. Make sure the distance between the pattern pieces has not changed as the pattern piece is moved.
Tape the piece in place.
Redraw the new pattern piece.
Cut out the new lengthened Front Neck Panel pieces.
Skip to step 3.
2.8REMOVING LENGTH: Cut straight through the adjustment line from step 2.1.
Tape the bottom of the pattern piece in place.
Extend the balance lines up on the piece of paper under the pattern.
Using your height adjustment measurement calculated from the table above, move the top piece down by that measurement, overlapping the two pieces and keeping the balance line. Tape in place.
Draw around each piece, reshaping where needed.
Cut out the new shortened Bust piece.
2.9Cut through the adjustment line drawn in step 2.1.
Tape the top pattern piece in place.
2.10Align the cut pattern piece along the balance line, then move the pattern piece up the balance line using your calculated measurement to take out height.
2.11Using your height adjustment measurement calculated from the table above, move the bottom piece up by that measurement, overlapping the two pieces and keeping the balance line. Tape in place.
Draw around each piece, reshaping where needed.
Cut out the new shortened Front Neck Panel.
3 . Waist3.1Trace and cut out all Skirt pattern pieces (Center Front, Side Front, Side Back, Center Back).
Place both pattern pieces on top of another larger piece of paper.
Measure from your center back to your natural waist. Use this measurement to mark the waist on the Center Back pattern piece.
Lay all the Skirt pieces next to the Center Back, matching the hems. Draw a line across all the pieces, marking the waist.
3.2Draw a balance line at the same angle as the grainline on all pattern pieces.
Extend this line onto the piece of paper.
If you are adding length, follow below. If you are removing length, skip to step 3.4.
3.3ADDING LENGTH: Cut along the waist adjustment lines on all pieces.
Tape down the bottom part of the pattern pieces.
Place the top cut piece of the Bust onto the paper, matching the balance lines.
Using your height adjustment measurement calculated from the table above, move the top piece up by that measurement, keeping the balance line. Tape in place.
Draw around the piece, filling in the gap in between the two pattern pieces.
Cut out the new Skirt pieces
3.4REMOVING LENGTH: Cut along the waist adjustment lines on all pieces.
Tape down the bottom part of the pattern pieces.
Place the top cut piece of the Bust onto the paper, matching the balance lines.
Using your height adjustment measurement calculated from the table above, move the top piece down by that measurement, overlapping the pieces, keeping the balance line. Tape in place.
Draw around the piece.
Cut out the new Skirt pieces.
If you are adding Sleeves, follow below. If you are not adding any Sleeves, your adjusted pattern pieces are complete. Use these to sew a muslin to check fit and adjust if needed.
4 . OPTIONAL Sleeve4.1Trace and cut out the Sleeve pattern piece.
Place the pattern piece on top of another larger piece of paper.
Use the measurement from step 1.2 and measure from the bottom of the armscye. Draw a horizontal line across the Sleeve at this point.
4.2Draw a balance line at the same angle as the grainline on the pattern piece. Extend the line onto the piece of paper.
NOTE – We are showing the Long Sleeve here, however the process is the same for the Short Sleeve.
4.3LENGTHENING: Cut straight through the adjustment line from step 4.1.
Tape the bottom of the Sleeve in place.
Extend the balance lines up on the piece of paper.
Using your height adjustment measurement calculated from the table above, move the top piece up by that measurement, keeping the balance line. Tape in place.
Redraw the Sleeve, blending the shape together.
Cut out the new lengthened Sleeve.
Your adjusted pattern pieces are complete. Use these to sew a muslin to check fit and adjust if needed.
4.4REMOVING LENGTH: Cut straight through the adjustment lines on both the Center Back and Side Back.
Tape the bottom of the pattern pieces in place.
Extend the balance lines up on the piece of paper under pattern.
Using your height adjustment measurement calculated from the table above, move the top piece down by that measurement, overlapping the pieces, keeping the balance line. Tape in place.
Redraw the Sleeve, blending the shape together.
Cut out the new shortened Sleeve.
Your adjusted pattern pieces are now complete. Use these to sew a muslin to check fit and adjust if needed.
