Project OverviewToiletry Bag
Difficulty Level = Beginner
A small carry all – the Toiletry Bag is perfect for travelling or for everyday use. Pop your toiletries or any other smaller items inside and carry by the straps. The straps can be made from fabric or from webbing. It has a main zipped compartment with zipper pulls on either end of the zipper, making it easier to open and close. A great sized Toiletry Bag for all your needs. Pair it with the Duffel Bag for the perfect set.
Our Facebook group is a great place to get help, share your tips and creations! We are a friendly bunch, and we love to help and see what you have made.
Please read the full instructions before getting started.
Wash, dry, and press your fabric before starting your project. A bit of prep now prevents shrinking and means your garment will stay the same size you made it.
Never leave a child or baby unattended or allow to sleep in a garment made from one of our patterns with ties, snaps, buttons, or anything they could remove, choke on, or get caught on. Always use caution if you are unsure. We love our patterns, but we love your bundles of joy more!

Printing Your PatternSettings
The pattern is a separate download. Choose either the US letter paper, A4 paper, or A0 paper size based on the printer you wish to use. If you are in the US or Canada then your printer will likely use US letter paper. Other regions normally use A4 paper. Some people prefer to print their patterns at a print shop: A0 is best in this case.
Print at 100%.
On the second page, you will find a 1-inch and a 3-inch square test box. Print this page first, on its own, and measure these squares.
Once you are happy that the test box is accurate, print the rest of the pattern pages.
Please follow this video for information and assistance on assembling this pattern.
Also, please note that some Rebecca Page patterns and projects also come with cut files and a printable design page which you can use to plan your project if you wish. These are provided in a separate section below to avoid any confusion!

0.1Pattern Markings
Transfer all pattern markings. Mark the pattern using either tailors chalk or a disappearing fabric marker, or pins.
0.2Interfacing
Using the manufacturer’s instructions, apply iron-on interfacing to the Main and Lining pattern pieces for the Bag and Bag End, as well as the Straps and Zipper Pulls.
1 . Zipper1.0NOTE – You can use zipper tape in place of the 13 inch zipper. This comes in various widths. This pattern has a ¼ inch seam allowance along the zipper edge. If your zipper tape varies from that shown in the tutorial, align the edge of your fabric so you are able to take the full seam allowance without your stitches being too close to the zipper teeth.
1.1Place the zipper onto the Main Bag, right sides together, matching raw edges. Pin in place.
TIP – Pins can distort the fabric around the zipper. Using wonder tape as an alternative works well to secure the zipper in place while attaching.
1.2Using a zipper foot on the sewing machine, stitch using ¼ inch seam allowance.
1.3Press fabric away from the zipper.
1.4Repeat steps 1.1 to 1.3 for the second Main Bag piece.
1.5If your zipper is longer than needed for the bag, open the zipper until the Zipper Pull is within the body of the bag. Baste across each end of the zipper stitching through the Main Bag where it has been attached to the zipper using ¼ inch seam allowance, ¼ inch from each end.
TIP – Basting is just like normal stitching except the stitches need to be long and loose so that they can be removed later, if needed. Stitch within the seam allowance, so that the basting stitches are not seen in the final garment, while keeping the stitches loose enough to pull out just in case they are visible. The purpose is to hold a piece of fabric in place until that section is properly sewn. Set the machine to a long loose stitch. Test it on a piece of fabric first to make sure that the stitches can easily be removed. Do not backstitch at either end. Leave the ends loose, with approximately 1 inch of thread tails at either end of the stitching.
1.6Trim off the excess zipper tape.
2 . Zipper Pulls2.1If you are familiar with making double fold bias tape, please use this. If not, don’t worry, just follow along here!
Fold the Zipper Pull in half lengthwise, wrong sides together. Press.
2.2Open the Zipper Pull then fold the two long sides into the middle and press.
2.3Refold the Zipper Pull along the center edge, folding the raw edges to the inside.
2.4Topstitch ⅛ inch from each long edge.
Fold in half matching the raw edges.
2.5Aligning the raw edges, match the Zipper Pull along the top of the zipper tape and pin in place.
2.6Baste using ¼ inch seam allowance.
2.7Repeat steps 2.1 to 2.6 for the second Zipper Pull.
3 . Straps3.0If you are using Strap Webbing in place of making Fabric Straps, skip to step 3.5 to attach them to your Bag.
3.1If you are familiar with making double fold bias tape, please use this. If not, don’t worry, just follow along here!
Fold the Strap in half lengthwise, wrong sides together. Press.
3.2Open the Strap then fold the two long sides into the middle and press.
3.3Refold the Strap along the center edge, folding the raw edges to the inside.
3.4Topstitch each long edge using ⅛ inch seam allowance.
Repeat steps 3.1 to 3.4 for the second Strap.
OPTIONAL – Stitch additional rows of topstitching as you prefer.
3.5Take one side of the Strap and place it onto the Main Bag, with wrong side of the Strap facing right side of the Main Bag. Use the strap placement markings as a guide. Pin.
3.6Starting at the bottom raw edge, stitch up to the top Strap marking, stitching over your previous stitches from step 3.4 at ⅛ inch. Then stitch across the top, then down the other side of the Strap.
3.7Making sure the Strap isn’t twisted, take the other side of the Strap and place it onto the strap markings on the other side of the Bag. Pin.
3.8Repeat steps 3.5 to 3.6 to attach it to the Bag.
3.9Repeat steps 3.5 to 3.8 for the second Strap.
4 . Bag Bottom4.1Match the bottom edge of the Main Bag, right sides together. Pin.
TIP – Place a pin through or right next to each Strap edge to make sure they stay lined up during sewing.
4.2Stitch using a ½ inch seam allowance.
4.3Press the seam allowance open.
4.4Repeat steps 4.1 to 4.3 for the Bag Lining.
5 . Bag Ends5.1On one Main Bag End piece, baste at the ½ inch seam allowance all the way around the circle.
NOTE – Basting it here makes it easier to match up the circles in the next steps.
5.2Fold the Main Bag End piece in half to find the center top and center bottom. Mark with a pin.
NOTE – If you are using directional fabric, be sure to fold so it is facing the right direction.
5.3Right sides together, pin the Main Bag End to the Main Bag. Start by matching the center top to the zipper teeth and the center bottom to the bag bottom seam.
Continue pinning the two pieces together, easing the circles together as needed.
TIP – Pin right at the ½ inch seam allowance, where your stitches will be. Not pinning at the seam allowance will mean the circles won’t fit together as well.
5.4Stitch using a ½ inch seam allowance.
5.5Trim the seam allowance approximately in half.
Press the seam toward the Bag.
5.6Repeat steps 5.1 to 5.5 for the second Main Bag End.
TIP – Make sure that your zipper is partly open when attaching the second Main Bag End piece to the bag in order for you to be able to open the zipper to turn the bag the right side out.
5.7Fold the long edge of the Bag Lining towards the wrong side by ¼ inch and press.
NOTE – The folded edge is the top edge of the Bag Lining which will be attached to the zipper.
Repeat for the other side.
5.8Repeat steps 5.1 to 5.6 for both Lining Bag Ends.
NOTE – When matching the folded top edges of the Bag Lining from step 5.7, there will be a ½ inch gap between the folded edges. This is exactly where the top mark will be.
6 . Finish Bag6.1Turn Main Bag right side out.
6.2Slip the Bag Lining inside the Main Bag, wrong sides together.
6.3From the outside, start pinning the folded edge of the Bag Lining to the wrong side of the zipper.
Pin all the way around the zipper, including the short ends at each end of the zipper.
6.4Using a zipper foot, topstitch at ⅛ from the end of the outer fabric, all the way around the zipper.
NOTE – You will need to stop and move the zipper out of the way in order to get to both ends.
TIP – When approaching the corners, leave the needle down, lift the presser foot and turn the bag. Then lower the presser foot and continue sewing.
6.5Make sure the Bag Lining is sitting inside the Main Bag smoothly.
